Caramelizing Onions

How to give onions a deeper flavor.

The next time your recipe calls for sautéed onions, try caramelizing them for a richer, more sophisticated flavor. The process is easy. Simply melt butter over low heat, stir in sliced onions, and cook them slowly until they become a translucent, golden brown.

  1. 1

Use 1 Tablespoon of butter per 1-1½ cups of onion.

  2. 2

Melt the butter over low heat.

  3. 3

Stir in the sliced onions and cook slowly for at least 20 to 25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 4

The onions will become translucent and golden brown.
