Whole Wheat Maple Chocolate Waffles

Since you can never have enough delicious breakfast recipes to keep the family happy throughout the year, here is another one to add to your repertoire. It is not just super yummy and easy, but also a wholesome start in your day. Made with nutritious cocoa powder, 100% whole wheat, 100% real cream Challenge butter and no added sugar, it will give your kids the energy they need for a long day at school.

Tip: You can make a larger portion (2x recipe) of waffles and freeze the baked waffles in a freezer bag or container for up to 2-3 weeks. This saves you a ton of time in the morning and makes a healthy quick breakfast for the whole week. Just pop waffles in a toaster and send your kids on their way!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ stick Challenge Unsalted Butter, melted
  • ½ cup maple syrup, plus more for serving
  • 1 tablespoon flax seeds or chia seeds, optional
  • bananas, for serving

Directions

    In a mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients and set aside.

    Whisk the wet ingredients together in a separate bowl.

    With a hand whisk, stir the wet into the dry ingredients until combined.

    Prepare waffles according to the instructions of your waffle maker.

    For breakfast, serve with fresh banana and maple syrup, for dessert, serve with chocolate sauce.
