Enjoy a little heat with your sweets. Add a touch ground red pepper to this shortbread cookie recipe to give it the right spark.
- 1 cup (2 sticks) Challenge Butter
- ¾ cup sugar
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¾ teaspoon ground red pepper
- ¼ cup cinnamon sugar
To make the cookie dough, start by creaming the butter. Then gradually add sugar, flour, and ground red pepper. Beat until light and fluffy.
Divide dough in half, center each portion into its own gallon-sized plastic food storage bag, and roll to ⅛-inch thickness. Chill dough anywhere from 20 minutes to several days.
Preheat oven to 350°F. Cut dough into stars with a 3-inch star shaped cutter. Sprinkle the stars with cinnamon sugar before baking (1 Tablespoon ground cinnamon blended with 1/4 cup sugar).
Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes or until edges are slightly browned. Remove from oven and allow cookies to cool.
